Seminary Education for Times of Revival

with one comment

From yesterday’s blog post at Desiring God:

Discernment is not created in God’s people by brokenness, humility, reverence, and repentance. It is created by biblical truth and the application of truth by the power of the Holy Spirit to our hearts and minds. When that happens, then the brokenness, humility, reverence, and repentance will have the strong fiber of the full counsel of God in them. They will be profoundly Christian and not merely religious and emotional and psychological.

Test Revival with Doctrine :: Desiring God

Among many things that the article and quoted source provoked me to think about was importance of seminary education for evangelical churches in Ukraine. Particularly I focus my attention on importance of teaching believers the whole counsel of God and Christian doctrine that comes out of Biblical data with illumination of the Holy Spirit. Teaching believers discernment with sensitivity to the Holy Spirit is also important aspect. This is vital to any church in the world, North American, Eastern European or Pacific. Ukrainian evangelical churches are in great need of biblical preaching and teaching, relevant to contemporaries and true to heart of the Gospel.

Thus I read about evidence why ministry of Kyiv Theological Seminary is of vital importance for Church in Ukraine and other neighboring countries.

As St. Paul wrote in Colossians 1:28, “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” (ESV)

Biblical Theology is Historical And Progressive

with one comment

Theologian William Dyrness gives this description of biblical theology in his book Themes in Old Testament Theology (IVP, 1977, pp. 16,17).

All good theology is biblical to a greater or lesser extent, but biblical theology is that special discipline that seeks to study biblical themes on their own terms. In distinction from systematic theology, which seeks to understand interrelationship of biblical themes and their historical and philosophical implications, biblical theology studies the leitmotivs of Scriptures as they develop in the course of God’s dealings with people in the biblical period. It is historical and progressive. It centers on God’s saving self-revelation as it takes the shape of certain events in which God calls to himself a people who will reflect his character and further his loving purposes. It sees these developments against the background of a world which God created as a vehicle of his purposes and values. Finally, it sees how God refuses to abandon his purposes despite the unfaithfulness of his own people and works even in their unbelief to create a people more perfectly and completely his own.

Think bigger of God!

without comments

How big is our God? Is He big enough? The authors of BiggerGod.com challenge us to think of him bigger. Much Bigger! This is what they say, “We want to give you a Biblical, compelling vision of the glory of God, and spur you to fear and worship and trust and admiration. God is BIG way, way, way bigger than you think. We know a lot of the material on BiggerGOD.com is new to most people, even Christians, but we hope you aren’t overly offended by anything jarring. We really wanted to compile some important material about God that most people don’t give attention to.”

The site is worth to be given attention and meditation of the materials presented on its pages. Lets search ourselves and draw near to Him.
